The problems of the girl child are various, stemming out of cultural bias, male preference, poverty and particularly ignorance. All these influence the discrimination against her for her sex, and other responses and treatment she receives in the society. In Africa, where the family’s finance is not adequate, the girl child would stay at home while the male child is educated. She faces rape, sexual assault and abuse in the hands of men. As she grows she is most probably seen as a sex instrument for jobs or promotion. Even in school, to pass her exams, she may be pressured to sleep with her lecturers. The issue of peer pressure, corrupt society through its value system, illiteracy, lack of enlightenment and poverty is taking a strong toll on the girl child with heartrending results inclusive of immoral dressing, early exposure to sex, teenage pregnancy, abortion and exposure to HIV/AIDS. Defilement is a common thing now in our society, men raping and having intercourse with under aged girls; yet there is a law against it which has not and is seldom put to force, in fact there is the great possibility of the ignorance of its existence, thus its being enforced. Now that female genital mutilation is being outlawed, sexual discrimination, early marriage, girl prostitution and trafficking are being fought against; there is the need to take a strong stand against defilement.
The Girl needs enlightenment to avoid being a victim and be built into an effective womanhood while the girl victim needs counselling, legal redress and aid, medical and psycho-therapy, motivation and rehabilitation for restoration into an effective womanhood. These are what the Center for the Protection of the Girl Child seeks to provide.

Our Strategy
Our idea is to protect the girl child against all abuses through the enlightenment of the society, counselling of the girl victim, and general education and enlightenment of the girl child.
Our Projects Mission Against Defilement (MAD): fighting against sexual abuse of the girl child, enforcing the existing law against defilement, creating awareness on defilement through enlightenment campaign, stickers, bill boards, media programs, encouraging the society to expose and fight this vice. The Girl Center: a place of succor to girls that need help and girls generally, providing counseling, recreational activities, legal aid, vocational training and continual education. It also includes temporary shelter for abused girls. Diamond Girls Club: providing a platform for association, followership and mentoring for fulfillment in life through emphasizing and exposing the true worth of the girl child.
